Living with a Bird Control Expert
I Love my Harris Hawk !!
Living and working with a hawk or any wild bird is an absolute joy ..... most of the time. The Harris Hawk is a very popular bird in falconry circles. Unusually for a bird of prey, the Harris Hawk is used to hunting in packs which may explain its popularity as a hunting companion. They are relatively easy to train compared to other birds and very social. My Harris Hawk, Maximus, is a natural hunter and loves to work as part of bird control team - he does the hard work !!
The hard work consists of a number of things but here in Ireland its mainly bird control, the clearing of birds such as pigeons, crows and seagulls. This kind of wildlife control service is important for a number of reasons. It doesn't use poison or pesticides so other species are usually unharmed. Its keeps commercial buildings free of problems such as nesting or excessive bird droppings. At the extreme, in airports, the control of birds is a matter of life and death.
I brought Maximus to a school recently for World Animal Week, below is the thank you card I recieved - very heart warrming
